What We Offer:

Personalized Music Lessons:

Our private lessons in mandolin, violin, viola, and other stringed instruments are tailored to each student’s individual needs. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, our experienced instructors are here to guide you.

Group Classes:

Join our group sessions for beginner mandolin, Celtic music, or introductory fiddle. These classes foster a collaborative learning environment, where you can connect with fellow musicians while learning.

Instrument Rentals:

We offer rentals for the instruments we teach, including mandolins, violins, violas, and mandocellos. Our flexible rental options ensure access to quality instruments for students and performers alike.

Instrument Sales:

Our CEO, Adam Sweet, has many years' experience in the music sales industry, initially working at violin shops in the north east, as well as owning a luthier supply business himself.  He and his wife Emily visit China once or twice a year on buying contracts for customers.  The following are just some of the products and services he provides through his personal blog:

  • Looking to purchase your own instrument? We offer a curated selection of mandolins, violins and violas, including specialized 5-string models.
  • Custom-built unfinished violins, violas and cellos can be acquired on contract.
  • We import hand-made bows from Arcos Brasil and Horst John in Brazil, as well as carry the odd American-made bow.
  • We can recommend accessories like strings, cases, tuners, to complement your instrument.  These items are available at your local music store or online and are quite affordable.  We like D'Addario and Optima strings, Fender electronic tuners and Bobelock cases.  We don't get a commission from the sale of any of these.

Luthier Supplies:

Whether you’re a professional luthier or an enthusiast, our selection of supplies supports all your instrument-building and repair needs. With decades of experience, Sweet Music is here to support your musical growth, whether you’re learning, renting, buying, or crafting.

Social Media Killed Music Education

The rise of social media has brought unprecedented access to knowledge and resources, but for music teachers, it has created a set of challenges that complicate the art of teaching. Platforms designed to connect people and share information are now pervasive, shaping students’ expectations and perceptions of learning, particularly in music. While some benefits exist, such as wider exposure to different musical styles and instant access to tutorials, the ways in which social media has impacted teaching music go beyond mere access to content. Instead, it has introduced obstacles that threaten the integrity of music education itself, affecting students' commitment, patience, and the depth of their learning experience. One of the primary ways social media has negatively impacted music teaching is by fostering a culture of instant gratification. Music students are exposed to endless videos of professionals and influencers displaying highly polished performances, often without context re...

We're So Back! In-Person Lessons Return to Granby, MA

Private Lessons and Group Classes are now in-person again at our location in Granby, Massachusetts! We still offer remote lessons as a convenience for students who are more than 25 minutes away from our location, or inclement weather, but as most students (and our teachers!) prefer in person lessons, they are really the best way to get the most out of your lesson experience. Here's how to start: Fill out the registration form on this page .  Don't forget to include your optimal lesson time.  We are available 1-7pm, Monday - Friday. Some teachers may be available on the weekends, so please ask. Plan to arrive at the studio at least ten minutes before your lesson starts.  You may sit in your car, or if the weather is warm enough, on the sun porch prior to your lesson.   We will start promptly at the agreed-upon time.  If you are late, there may be a problem, so please don't put your teacher through that.  Schedules are tight because we try to fit everyon...
